There are several different types of lasers used in the treatment of an enlarged prostate including the GreenLight, Holmium (HoLAP), and Evolve lasers and all are effective. Under anesthesia, a scope is placed into the bladder and the laser is then used to vaporize the enlarge prostate tissue until a wide open urinary channel is created. Typically, a catheter is left in the bladder for 1-2 days post-operatively but this depends on the size of the prostate and the surgeon preference. These procedures can be done as an outpatient at one of the hospitals we serve or at our outpatient surgery center.
